Terowongan Bligo, also known as the Bligo Tunnel, is a hidden part of the Selokan Mataram system, tucked away in Bligo Village, Magelang Regency.
The tunnel starts near the Progo River intake at Bendung Karangtalun and runs underground for about 979 meters, before surfacing again closer to the main canal route. Its job is simple but clever: carry river water beneath the village terrain so the flow can continue smoothly toward Yogyakarta.
You won’t see much from the outside, but beneath your feet this siphon keeps one of the region’s most important irrigation channels moving.
