ANIEM Transformer Substation (Yogyakarta Kotabaru)
Bangunan Cagar Budaya

Babon ANIEM (Kotabaru) sits right at the intersection of Jalan F.M. Noto in Kotabaru, Yogyakarta.

Built around 1918, this neat little square brick building was a vital power substation for the surrounding district. Back in the day, Kotabaru, originally named “Nieuwe Wijk”, was an upscale residential area designed exclusively for Dutch colonial elites. Because of this, it became the very first neighborhood in Yogyakarta to enjoy modern luxuries like a running water system and an electric grid.

Surrounded by a small green garden, this old transformer hub blends perfectly into Kotabaru’s historic, tree-lined streets, serving as a cool reminder of early modern city planning.
