Alun‑Alun Lor Yogyakarta, also known as Alun‑Alun Utara, sits right at the northern side of the Kraton Yogyakarta and has always been one of those places that quietly carries centuries of royal tradition.
For generations it was an open square where people wandered in, joined public events, or simply enjoyed the wide space under the twin banyan trees. Today, though, the square is no longer freely accessible to the public. The Kraton has tightened access, turning Alun‑alun Utara back into a more private ceremonial ground rather than the casual gathering spot it used to be.
Even so, the atmosphere around it still feels unmistakably “Jogja”: a mix of heritage, calm, and that subtle sense of royal presence that never really fades.
