Near the Bekas Rumah Dinas Stasiun Sedayu stands another ruined building, on which three faded letters have been stenciled: DKA.
This stands for Djawatan Kereta Api (the Department of Railways), and it is a fascinating timestamp from a short but legendary chapter in Indonesian history. Operating only between 1950 and 1963, the DKA was the very first unified, national railway company formed right after Indonesia secured its independence from the Dutch.
Today, seeing those letters hidden in the overgrown weeds at Sedayu is like finding a direct fingerprint from the birth of modern Indonesia, proving that these ruins helped get a new nation moving.
