Benteng Pasir Kolecer – Sumedang

Benteng Pasir Kolecer, located in the Gunung Gadung area of Sumedang, was built by the Dutch colonial government around 1907.

The fort was constructed with the help of local residents, who were paid meager wages for their labor. The strategic location of Sumedang, surrounded by mountains and situated on high ground, made it an ideal spot for a defensive fort. The fort consists of two main structures that resemble bunkers. The first structure, which is smaller, measures approximately 5×6 meters and served as a hiding place. The second structure is larger, measuring about 5.6×7.5 meters, and features walls that resemble a watchtower and defensive walls. This larger structure also had a platform for storing cannons, which were aimed towards the forest to the south.

Over time, the fort fell into disrepair and was largely forgotten. However, in recent years, efforts have been made to preserve and maintain the site. The fort is now a historical landmark that offers visitors a glimpse into the past and the rich history of Sumedang.
