Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY)

Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, in short DIY (Yogyakarta Special Region) is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has special status and consists of 5 regions:

Bantul Regency, Gunung Kidul Regency, Kulon Progo Regency, Sleman Regency and Yogyakarta as its capital city.

Yogyakarta Special Region was formed from the merger of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta and the Duchy of Paku Alaman, which played an important role in the struggle for Indonesian independence. Yogyakarta Special Region is located in the southern part of Java Island. Yogyakarta is also the center of Javanese culture and education.

This area is known as an area rich in Javanese art, traditions and history.
