Jembatan Duwet (Duwet Bridge) is a suspension bridge over the Progo River, connecting two provinces, namely Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java.
This bridge was built by the Dutch in the 1930s to facilitate logistical transportation between the two regions. However, during the struggle for independence, this bridge was destroyed by Indonesian fighters to hinder the movement of the Dutch army. This bridge was then rebuilt in 1960 and renovated in 2015.
The Duwet Bridge has high historical value as a silent witness to the struggle of the Indonesian people against the colonialists. This bridge is also a tourist attraction for people who want to enjoy the view of the Progo River and feel the sensation of walking on a swaying suspension bridge.
The bridge is only accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
