Embung Batara Sriten

Embung Batara Sriten, hidden high in the hills of Gunungkidul, feels like one of those places you only discover when you’re willing to wander a little off the usual path. The reservoir itself is small and serene, perched at the top of a ridge where the wind is cool and the views stretch endlessly across the beautiful landscape.

To reach Batara Sriten, you follow a beautiful winding road that snakes its way up the hillside. It’s the kind of road that makes you slow down, not because you have to, but because you want to. Every turn opens up a new panorama: terraced fields, scattered villages, and the soft blue outline of distant hills. It’s peaceful, photogenic, and just adventurous enough to make you feel like you’re heading somewhere special.

At the top, the atmosphere shifts. It’s quiet. Breezy. The kind of place where you can sit for a while without doing anything at all. Sunrise and sunset are the favorites here, when the sky turns dramatic and the reservoir mirrors the colors like a natural canvas. On days with clear skies you can see Gunung Merapi and Gunung Merbabu in the far distance.

Embung Batara Sriten isn’t a big attraction, and that’s exactly why people love it.
