Babon Aniem (Yogyakarta) stands right outside the northern entrance of Jalan Malioboro, at the busy junction of Jalan Abu Bakar Ali and Jalan Mataram.
It is a tiny piece of Yogyakarta’s history: the Babon Aniem. Built around 1918 by the Dutch colonial electricity company ANIEM, this compact, fortress-like brick building looks like a miniature castle. It actually served as one of the city’s very first high-voltage transformer substations.
It is a quick but fascinating stop for any history lover exploring the city center!
