Candi Kalasan is one of those temples that quietly surprises you.
Tucked away in Sleman Regency, it doesn’t have the crowds of Prambanan, but it carries this soft, ancient charm that makes you slow down a bit. The stonework is weathered but still beautiful, especially the kala heads and the traces of old decorative patterns. And if you visit in the late afternoon, the light hits the temple in a way that makes everything feel warm and slightly magical.
Right now (August 2026), parts of the structure are undergoing a careful cleaning and conservation process, a slow, detailed effort that will likely continue for a few more months, maybe even longer.
