Sabo Dam Nglumut in Srumbung, Magelang Regency, is another magnificent viewpoint near Mount Merapi.
This masterpiece of engineering rises robustly from the Bebeng River; the dam traps volcanic sediment and supplies essential irrigation water to local farmland. Travelers have nicknamed the structure the “Niagara of Magelang”, thanks to its massive concrete walls that form a wide, curtain-like artificial waterfall, filling the area with the soothing sound of flowing water.
What makes the spot truly special is the unique, winding access road flanked by high concrete walls, making it an incredibly photogenic location for local cyclists, photographers, and day-trippers.
In the immediate vicinity, you will find two other dams: Dam Kali Krasak Kembang and Grojogan Watu Purbo.
