Mendut Buddhist Monastery is a place of worship and meditation for Buddhists in Magelang Regency, Central Java.
The monastery was built in the 1980s, inspired by the ancient Candi Mendut that stands nearby, one of the oldest Buddhist monuments in Java.
The monastery and the temple are both part of the Borobudur Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, they are not the same thing. The monastery is a modern building that houses monks, nuns, and visitors, while the temple is a historical relic that preserves the art and culture of the past.
