Magelang

Magelang is one of those places in Central Java that feels both cozy and grand at the same time. Tucked between Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu, the town has a laid-back vibe where life moves at its own rhythm. You’ll find leafy streets, friendly warungs serving steaming bowls of mie ayam, and a sense of calm that makes you want to linger.

Although Magelang is part of the Magelang Regency, it is an independent city with it’s own administration, while Mungkid is the capital city of the Magelang Regency.

Of course, Magelang is also the gateway to Candi Borobudur, the world-famous Buddhist temple that rises like a stone mandala from the misty plains. But beyond the temple, the charm lies in everyday moments, watching kids fly kites in the fields, sipping sweet wedang jahe (ginger tea) as the sun sets, or joining locals for a stroll along the riverside. It’s a town where history and daily life blend seamlessly.
