Purworejo Regency
Purworejo Regency (Kabupaten Purworejo) lies on the southern flank of Central Java, bordered by Wonosobo and Magelang to the north, Kulon Progo (Yogyakarta) to the east, the Indian Ocean to the south, and Kebumen to the west. It covers roughly 1,100 km² and is home to about 795,000 residents as of mid‑2024.
Purworejo’s terrain transitions from the fertile Kedu Plain in the north to coastal lowlands in the south. Rice fields dominate much of the regency, supported by rivers such as the Bogowonto. The region’s position, adjacent to Yogyakarta and near major tourism corridors, gives it strategic value for logistics and regional travel.
Purworejo is the capital city of the Purworejo Regency.
