Candi Borobudur

Candi Borobudur (Borobudur Temple) is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. It is the largest Buddhist temple in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple consists of nine platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with thousands of relief panels and Buddha statues. The temple is a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists and a symbol of Indonesian culture and heritage. Candi Borobudur, Candi Mendut and Candi Pawon are three Buddhist temples, connected by a symbolic straight line and only a few kilometers apart. Together they form a Buddhist temple complex.

Prepare your visit to the Borobudur well since there are 2 types of tickets currently. One type of ticket only gives you access to the lower area around the Borobudur, so not to the Borobudur itself. If you want to climb the Borobudur you need the second type of ticket, which allows you to climb the Borobudur. Currently about 1.000 people are allowed to climb the Borobudur at any given day, in different groups, so make sure you buy your ticket in time.
