Situs Sumur Gumuling used to be one of the most intriguing parts of Taman Sari.
An underground space with soft echoes, cool air, and that iconic five‑way staircase where light fell beautifully from above. It was once a quiet place for prayer and reflection, and you could really feel that calm atmosphere when standing in the center.
Since December 2020, the site has been officially closed, and visitors are no longer allowed to enter. Even so, Sumur Gumuling remains an important piece of Yogyakarta’s cultural heritage. People still talk about its unique architecture and the way it blended simplicity with a touch of mystery.
