Benteng Vredeburg is a colonial fort right in the center of Yogyakarta, near Malioboro Street.
Built by the Dutch in the 18th century, it was originally used to monitor the nearby Sultan’s palace. Today, the fort has been turned into a museum where you can explore Indonesia’s history through dioramas, photos, and artifacts.
With its old colonial architecture and peaceful courtyard, it’s a great place to step back in time and discover Yogyakarta’s past.
