Bendung Dung Parang, locally known as Bendung Sepuri, located directly next to and beneath the Jembatan Dung Parang, is a weir that regulates the water flow, thereby protecting the structure of the aqueduct.
Just like the neighboring aqueduct, the origins of this weir date back over a century to 1918, built during the Dutch colonial era as part of the massive Kalibawang Irrigation System in the Kulon Progo Regency.
Over the decades, the structure has been reinforced with modern concrete to withstand the heavy flows of the Sepuri River, but its historic foundation remains intact.
